"The aurochs is proud and has great horns;
it is a very savage beast and fights with its horns;
a great ranger of the moors, it is a creature of mettle."
- Anglo-Saxon Rune Poem
The Aurochs (Bos primigenius) were the wild, ancient cattle hunted by early Europeans --famously depicted in the Lascaux Cave paintings. Caesar wrote that the ancient Germans hunted them by capturing them and killing them in pits.
"The young men harden themselves with this exercise, and practice themselves in this sort of hunting, and those who have slain the greatest number of them, having produced the horns in public, to serve as evidence, receive great praise."
Extinct since 1627, these primeval beasts have long been revered for their strength and indomitable spirit, and they are directly associated with the Uruz (ᚢ) rune of the Elder Futhark.
This comfortable, high-quality raglan sleeved shirt depicts the skeleton of an aurochs, and features a hem tag with the Uruz (ᚢ) rune. Wear it to summon strength and set personal records. Particularly appropriate for squatting and benching, when you want more back coverage and grip than a tank (or stringer) can offer.
